Sep 22, 2019Why Do We Buy That? – Laughed AtBy: Pastor DavidSeries: Why Do We Buy That?Matthew 6:16-24“Come on, try it!” “Everyone’s doing it!” “Are you scared?” Our desire to fit in–and above all else not to be laughed at–is one of our most powerful motivators. Sep 8, 2019Why Do We Buy That? – Jumping in ScumBy: Pastor DavidSeries: Why Do We Buy That?Matthew 9:9-13Why do commercials work on us? They offer satisfaction, meaning, and value in something we can buy. But we know better! Only Jesus offers the path of truly abundant life. Pastor David is back in September and will lead with a message series using commercial ads, “Why Do You Buy That?” We’ll uncover the ways we lose our focus amid the swirling media of advertising. We’ll expose our vulnerability to temptation, and we’ll get grounded again what really satisfies all the deep, inner longings of life. Our world creates a never-ending cycle of always needing that one more thing to be accepted or happy. Our church (Religion) tells us we just need to do that one more thing to be good enough. Jesus just says come! We “buy” this because we realize that we really are scum! Commercials prick this realization. Yet the answer isn’t buying their product, it’s turning to Jesus.

Jun 23, 2019Pork Futures Take a DiveSeries: Guest SermonWe always say we welcome the stranger in our church. Here's a challenge: what if a homeless naked guy came in and started shouting as if he was possessed by demons? How would we react? I don't even know how I'd react. We know how Jesus would react, because he met a guy like this. Other people would often bind the guy with chains. Jesus decided to unbind him from his real trouble: he commanded the unclean spirit to leave the man. The demon didn't go easily. It turned out there were many of them, not just one. But Jesus sent the demons into some pigs, and the pigs drowned in a lake. How do you suppose other people reacted when they saw that? We'll find out on when we hear the sermon.

May 26, 2019The Lord’s Spirit Began to MoveBy: Pastor DavidSeries: SamsonThe story of Samson ends with a big crash, which also ends his life. The mighty Samson found himself helpless as a result of his own foolishness. Yet, in desperation, he prayed, “Remember me, O Lord!” The true hero of the Samson story is actually God, who answers Samson’s prayer. God is still our true hero, for He still answers our desperate prayers. Although Samson reminds us of how we fall short of God’s plans for our lives, he also becomes a vivid testimony to make God our Hero!

May 19, 2019The Anti-HeroBy: Pastor DavidSeries: SamsonWe might remember Samson as the strong man of the Bible who did many amazing feats of strength. Yet we may not always remember just how badly he failed at following God’s calling on his life. God blessed him with special gifts, but he often used them for selfish reasons. What does God do with people like that? What does God do with people like us who are like that? This Sunday we’ll hear how God used Samson–failings and all–and how this is also true for how God still uses us!

May 12, 2019The Mother Without a NameBy: Pastor DavidSeries: SamsonThis Sunday, Mother’s Day, we begin our spring message series on Samson, the confusing strong man of the Bible. One quarter of the Samson story is actually about his mother! Samson, throughout his life, has four involved relationships with women. The first is the loving mother who raised him. She is the example of a faithful, godly woman. The other relationships Samson has with women fail miserably. So we begin with his mother, and our mothers. How has your mother been a godly example and witness?
